They were taking more fish than the ocean could replace, a problem called "overfishing." The fishermen would throw their big nets into the water, scooping up not just the fish they wanted, but all kinds of other sea creatures as well. Page 4: (Illustration: Close-up of the fishing net, with different types of sea creatures like fish, turtles, and sharks entangled) These "bycatch" animals - the creatures that weren't the main target of the fishing - often got hurt or even killed when they got caught in the nets. And the fishermen would just throw these injured or dead animals back into the water, not caring what happened to them. Bob watched in horror as his friends and neighbours were being carelessly discarded. All the beautiful fish, turtles, sharks, and other creatures that he loved were disappearing from his ocean home. "There must be a way to save the ocean!" he thought, feeling determined to find a solution to this problem. Page 6: (Illustration: Bob the turtle swimming up to the surface, looking determined) Bob decided he needed to take action and try to stop the overfishing. He swam up to the surface of the water, determined to find the fishermen and talk to them about what was happening in his underwater world. Page 7: (Illustration: Bob the turtle talking to the fishermen on their boat) "Please, stop catching so many fish!" Bob pleaded with the fishermen. "The ocean can't keep up with how much you're taking, and my friends are dying. We need to find a better way to get food from the sea that doesn't hurt the ocean and all the creatures living in it." Page 8: (Illustration: Fishermen looking thoughtful, with a sign in the background that says "Sustainable Seafood") The fishermen listened to Bob and realised they needed to make some changes. They learned about the idea of "sustainable seafood" - fish and other sea creatures that are caught in a way that doesn't damage the ocean or harm the other animals living there. The fishermen knew they had to find a new, more responsible way of fishing that would protect Bob's ocean home. They were more careful about how many fish they caught, and they made sure to avoid catching other sea creatures as bycatch. Bob's ocean home became healthy and thriving again, with lots of happy, swimming creatures. The turtle and the fish could all live in peace, without worrying about their friends disappearing.
